GERALD IVEY
Gerald Ivey is a partner with extensive experience in the areas of civil litigation and trial advocacy. Since joining Finnegan Henderson in 2000, Mr. Ivey concentrates his practice primarily on jury trial patent cases involving biotechnology, medical devices, and mechanical products. Mr. Ivey has acted as lead trial counsel in jury cases for biomechanical devices, including cardiovascular stents, and pharmaceutical products, such as glaucoma and arthritis medication. He has personally tried more than sixty cases to juries in federal and state courts.
Mr. Ivey was previously a partner at another national law firm with over 400 attorneys where he served as trial counsel on major product liability cases involving a variety of claims such as brake failure and loss of steering in automobiles; claims of sudden acceleration and crashworthiness in motorcycles and all terrain recreational vehicles; and electrical system failures in different products such as elevators, automobiles, and computer monitors. Over the years, Mr. Ivey has also handled numerous cases involving medical malpractice claims, general wrongful death actions, commercial, construction, and employment litigation.
Mr. Ivey has been an adjunct professor at the George Washington University Law School since 1993, where he instructs third year law students in trial advocacy. He serves as a seminar instructor at the University of Virginia Law School Trial Advocacy Institute, and he was previously an instructor at the George Washington University Law School/D.C. Bar Association College of Trial Advocacy.
In 2002, Mr. Ivey received The Honorable William J. Brennan, Jr. Award for recognition of his outstanding trial advocacy skills. In 2006, Mr. Ivey was one of the Finnegan Henderson lawyers interviewed in the firm’s selection by The American Lawyer as the IP Litigation Department of the Year.
