THE HONORABLE ROBERT J. CONRAD, JR.

Bob Conrad is the Chief Judge of the Western District of North Carolina. He was appointed to the federal bench in June, 2005. Before that he was a partner in the law firm of Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw (2004-2005), the United States Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina (2001-2004), and an Assistant United States Attorney (1989-2001). He began his professional career as a litigation associate with Michie, Hamlett, Donato & Lowry in Charlottesville Virginia after attending the University of Virginia School of Law. As United States Attorney, his office successfully prosecuted the first jury trial for material support of terrorism. As an Assistant United States Attorney, he led the Department of Justice’s Campaign Financing Task Force. He has deposed both the President and Vice President of the United States and testified before Senate and Congressional bodies on matters related to campaign financing and terrorism. He has been a member of the faculty of the National Trial Advocacy College since 2000.
